    Sad indeed.

Petric used his father’s key to open a lockbox and remove a 9 mm handgun and the game
And just how did Jr. get the keys?

I just love the knucklehead comment about "another preacher's kid..." what Morons, I'm a preacher's kid and when I got my video games taken away from me I sucked it up and just waited to get them back. I didn't have games like Halo 3, but man that Pitfall and Asteroids could get addicting

Probably stole them just like he did the gun he used to kill his mom. Since he had planned this he probably waited until dad was asleep on in the shower or whatever to lift the keys and get the gun. We all know if you want something bad enough there are ways to get it.

I didn't have games like Halo 3, but man that Pitfall and Asteroids could get addicting
Just think what you could have done with your misguided youth if it hadn't been for those "evil" games corrupting you!!

    j/k

Obviously, this was the fault of the violent video game! We should sue everyone!

Hydrashok Glock, you beat me to it. "Close your eyes....". How anyone could do that to anyone else escapes me.

As far as the video game angle is concerned, I've killed plenty of virtual aliens, beasts, nazi's, robots, etc. All that, and I've yet to harm a single individual in real life. But I must say, it may be that my gun is defective....after all, it hasn't killed anyone on it's own, and that's what the MSM says all guns should do!

Ironic that the little murderer did the deed over a "halo," 'cause he is going to get issued a fresh "pitchfork" anytime now.

a teenage boy opened fire on his family because he was addicted to video games
Lawyers ... insisted his youth and video game addiction made him less responsible.
He certainly exhibited less personal responsibility than he should have. But, he was absolutely, fully and unalterably responsible for (otherwise known as: the cause of) the cowardly murders. Book him, Danno.

I feel bad for the family - tragedy. But 18 hours a day!?! WTH!!!?? Come on, can't you give the kid something better to do? Sounds like the parents were way out of touch with the kid, and then the kid goes wacko. I bet when he gets to the pen, someone will come to him and say, "hey kid, close your eyes, I gotta nice suprise for ya."

The "kid" is 17, an adult in many places. By definition, his parents are going to be someone out of touch with this person. At 17, it happens. As for 18hrs a day, the math doesn't work, given school, sleeping, other things.

Still, he's done everything possible to deserve an adult response. One can only hope he gets it.

Not that it makes much difference to what he did, but from the article:
which he played 18 hours a day when he had the chance
That may explain how a little bit.

Gee...too bad he didn't think ahead a little bit.
No Video games at all in prison.
Maybe he'll try to kill the warden.

i don't think life without parole is enough for him.

Mark Petric, who is a minister at New Life Assembly of God in Wellington, testified that his son came into the room and asked: “Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you.”

The father, who recovered from the shooting, testified that he expected a pleasant surprise. Then his head went numb from a gunshot. His wife, Susan, 43, died of gunshot wound to the head.
i feel bad for the man who just lost his wife, and son, no matter how wacked the kid may be. i wish him the best in the time to come.
