Police shot and killed a 48-year-old Riverside man after he pointed a handgun at officers, authorities said today.
Russell Franklin Hyatt allegedly threatened his relatives with a loaded handgun Saturday night and left the home in the 3400 block of Spruce Street before officers arrived, according to a statement from the Riverside Police Department.
Hyatt was found about a quarter-mile away in the 2800 block of Mulberry Street, where a homeowner told officers that Hyatt had "entered their residence with a handgun," the department said in the statement.
While speaking with the homeowner, police saw Hyatt holding the gun in a nearby vacant dirt lot and tried to speak with him. Hyatt pointed his gun at an officer, who shot and killed Hyatt, the statement said.
Hyatt died at the scene.

Yep...pointing a gun at a cop usually results in a bad outcome.

Threatened his relatives with a loaded handgun, entered another home with the gun, pulled the gun on police officers...
is anyone surprised he was shot?
The old saying, you can't fix stupid comes to mind.

Suicide by cop has a predictable outcome, as it should. Don't want to get shot? Then, don't do that.

It still amazes me what people will do. Now if this LEO has any emotions in him/her, they did what they had to do, but still the feeling of doing it will be there for awhile.

I hope it don't take the LEO any longer than say 5 minutes to get over it.
An ounce of lead is worth 200lbs of cop.

I would think it would be much easier to get over killing a violent criminal that it would a person attempting suicide. I wouldn't want to have to live with that. I feel for the cop.

I wonder why he broke into that house first? Maybe desperately hoping for suicide by homeowner? But then again, its LA... what regular citizen would be armed?

Suicide by cop! Easy way to end it... but it sucks for the cop.
