One man was fatally shot during a home invasion in the rural community of Seagoville late Wednesday night.
Police say William Wood was shot in the head at about 8:00 when as many as three men confronted him at his Dallas County home in the 1500 block of Ballard Road.
The 47-year-old was later transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
After the shooting, Wood's wife was left to contend with the intruders, who police said forced her to the ground and demanded money.
"She told them she didn't have any money. They ran out of the house," Seagoville Police Capt. Ray Calverley said.
Police said the men were likely wearing masks and that there was not a good description of the attackers.
They also said the men might have been driving an older model four-door dark vehicle.
The trio did not take anything form the home, officials said.
Officials say such violent crime is rare in Seagoville.

47 years old: dead.
Wife left to confront 3 murderers.
What a horrible way to go. What a horrible way to see your mate die.
Gotta be ready at ALL times.
May justice come soon to the cowards, and may it be painful.

Mrs. Wood will be in my prayers tonight and I hope they burn the scum that destroyed her family. This is sickening.

This is odd.
I know the details are few, but does it not seem odd to anyone that they shot him in the head, and then left without taking anything?
They "forced his wife to the floor" asked for money but were content that she simply said "I don't have any?"
Maybe I'm being overly cynical here but something stinks. It just seems odd that they would commit murder then walk away with nothing. And they would leave the wife unharmed.
I suppose I could be jumping to a conclusion here.

Prayers for the widow!
Reminder to self: have talk with spouse about second-line defensive tactics, in case I am taken out in the first exchange.

+1. It sounds funny but it is still tragic. That was a very cruel and callous thing they did and they should be punished to the fullest extent the law allows.

Oh I agree it is very tragic now matter what.
I guess it just brought to mind something that I saw on Forensic Files not that long ago where a wife paid 2 men to bust into their home and kill her husband. It too was supposed to be a robbery but the lead investigator was not sold on the wife's story because nothing was taken.
I'm not saying that is the case here, but this is a sick world so I never rule out anything.
