McADENVILLE - A McAdenville family, including two young children, had their hands bound behind them with cords during a frightful home invasion that began with a knock at the door and ended with approximately $10,000 worth of items stolen.
Cramerton Police were called to 293 Mockingbird Lane at 8:51 p.m. Friday and told of the home invasion in one of the county's smallest towns.
Police Chief Greg Ratchford described the events that began with a woman coming to the door and asking to use the telephone. The woman inside passed a telephone to the stranger outside, but then was met by a man in the driveway with a gun that forced her back inside, Ratchford said.
A second man then came inside the home and forced her, her husband and their 12-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son at gunpoint to lie in the floor and have their hands bound behind them with cords, Ratchford said.
"They cleaned the house out," Ratchford said. "They took jewelry, a TV and even food."
The three were last seen in a burgundy, four-door sedan driving on Mockingbird Lane toward Main Street, Ratchford said.
"It just goes to show that this type of crime does happen over here on this side of the river," Ratchford said. "It's not all contained in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County."
The family of four was not injured physically, but was shaken up, Ratchford said.
"They were pretty scared," he said.
The town of McAdenville contracts police service with the adjacent town of Cramerton from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. seven nights of week, which is why Cramerton officers responded to the incident.
