Good: Would be robber shot dead at grocery store.
Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 01.27.2009
Tucson police have released the name of an 18-year-old who was killed while attempting to rob a South Side convenience store Monday.
Authorities say that Raymond Martinez, who lives about a block away from the Grand Market where the incident occurred, went into the store in the 6200 block of South Sixth Avenue armed with a gun.
He and another man, who has yet to be identified, were wearing bandanas on their faces and intended to rob the business, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
When a store employee saw the gun-yielding man, he went to arm himself and was shot by Martinez, Robinson said.
The employee returned fire, mortally wounding Martinez who ran out into the parking lot and collapsed.
He was pronounced dead there.
The man that was with Martinez left the scene but was later arrested.
He has not been charged but is being held on unrelated warrants, Robinson said.
The store employee was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Robinson said.

In most jurisdictions that would be a yes, most states have a law that no matter who is killed during the commission of a crime the surviving bandits can be charged with murder
"Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country,"

Seems to be alot of good self defense stories coming out of Tucson. Home invasions are a common thing around here. The public here are arming themselves because they know the police are only around after the fact.

Finally a convenience store that allows the employees to carry weapons for self defense instead of only BG's having one for wrong purposes-maybe the rest of the country will follow suit.

Hopefully the store clerk suffers no ill will from the management. I hear some store frown on protecting the store and actually tell employees to give averything to the BG (which may include thier lives).
Give that clerk a Cupi doll and here's to hoping he has a quick recovery.

Would that be covered under Workman's Comp? Is it a state law for crooks to carry insurance? If not, it should be. I would imagine that line of work would be open to frivalous law suits.

I worked at an ice cream store during high school. The metal scoops were kept in stainless steel water basins (to keep the i.c. from sticking to them) with the edges of those basins protected by rubber hoses to keep the scoops from clanging. The owner's instructions to us were that if a guy held us up with a gun, we were to cooperate with him, but if he used a knife, we were to beat him with the rubber hoses! I mean, that might sting, but it wouldn't stop a determined robber.
