OLD HICKORY, Tenn. -- Police said a retired Metro police officer opened fire on two would-be robbers at a home in Old Hickory on Saturday.
Police said the officer and a woman were returning home to Keeton Avenue just before 3 a.m., when the incident occurred.

The original news story said she was accosted in the driveway. I'm not certain how that makes the perpetrators "home invaders?"

Popular language inflation.
I was reading one "home invasion" story where the string of robberies were clearly B&Es -- not home invasions.
Two men. One knock on the front door to see if anyone was home. Then called the other (cell phone or radio??) in the back who broke in, while the first keep a lookout in front.
