JACKSON-- A Jackson senior citizen took a shot at a burglar who entered her home Saturday.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Ruth M. Dassel, age 81, heard a loud sound at the back of her Camba Road residence, so she decided to investigate. She opened the door that leads to her back porch to discover a man standing there.

Dassel, at the sight of her discovery, then proceeded to go into the pouch of her walker and pull out a pistol. According to the Deputy’s incident report, Dassel drew the gun out, and pointed it at the burglar.
The report went on to explain how Dassel claimed the burglar told her, “Don’t shoot!” He then ran out of the house. Dassel, reported that she was able to fire off one shot at the man, though her bullet missed the mark.

Dassel does not believe that the man was able to take anything from her home before he fled.

The suspect is described as a younger man, approximately 20 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and thin. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a tee shirt that said “Johnny’s Bar” on it, with a plaid flannel shirt over it.
