I always sit facing the door of a restaurant. I've been doing it so long (several decades) it's habit. When I lived in California I did it because early warning enhanced the chance to escape.

Now that I'm in PA and don't consider myself dressed till the pistol is checked and in the IWB, I do it for the same reason, and to have a chance to defend myself.

Given a choice, I'll sit facing the door, strong side toward the aisle, not far from an escape route out the back, or a table with heavy chairs that might be able to break a window.

I find myself dividing my attention between the menu and making a plan when I first sit down. It's gotten to be a habit.

My wife's gotten used to it. I don't like to sit too close to the door. If, God forbid, something ever does happen, she knows what she needs to do to have the best chance to survive.

Situational awareness + proper weapons = a fighting chance!
No guarantees......but the odds are much better!

If the guy had a gun, maybe just brandishing it would have slowed these attackers down. I agree wrong seating position.

No law other than the ability to carry would have helped. The attackers broke all the rest.
