Two dead at gun rangeBoth suffered gunshot wounds to the head

Two people were killed by gunfire today at a Casselberry shooting range, according to police. Both were shot in the head.
Authorities were called to Shoot Straight, a gun range on U.S. Highway 17-92, about 4:20 p.m.
When paramedics arrived, they found one man dead. They transported a woman to an Altamonte Springs hospital, but she died there, said Casselberry police Lt. Dennis Stewart.
He did not release the victims' names, saying their relatives had not been contacted. He also offered no information about whether they knew each other.
Exactly what happened was not clear. Also not clear was who shot whom, how many rounds were fired and what caliber weapons were involved.
Stewart said both people had gone to the range to target shoot.
"There were no reported arguments between them before the shooting began," he said.
Other customers were at the range, he said. Once gunfire broke out, "Everybody went running like crazy," he said.
An eye-witness told CFN-13 the two victims appeared to be together and took turns firing at targets. When they fired off rounds, he said, they stood very close together.
Police have asked the store for surveillance tapes.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime scene technicians were on the scene Sunday evening, he said.

A lot of information is needed to figure this one out, but it definitely doesn't sound like it is somewhere I would have wanted to be.

Very sad, possible double suicide attempt?

Perhaps. Or possibly a murder-suicide. I'm suprised at the mention of tapes. Maybe the tapes will explain what happened.

Both shot in the head?
That doesn't sound like two accidents.

I'm a little inclined to agree with the murder-suicide, absent any more information. I was about to say it's a strange place to do it....but, then, what place would be normal?

If you are at a firing range, how would you know when 'gunfire broke out' to take off running like crazy. Somebody saw something with that remark.

CCW even at the gun range. I've heard of nutjobs at public ranges. Think about it, what better place to go to steal guns.

I have seen now a report that identified this as a murder suicide. Mother killed son and then herself.

thats the range i usually go to. scary to think i couldve been there. on the local tv channels they said it was a mother who shot her son and then turned the gun on herself. she had a history of mental illness.
and xrmeav8r, thats exactly what i was wondering.

A member over at another forum said that is his local range and posted...
EDIT: h20eweup2 was the original poster!
more details: a mother shot her son and then turned the gun on herself. the mother had a history of mental illness. the man shooting on the line next to them said they were both very jittery and kept getting up over each others shoulders while they shot. he said something seemed very wrong.
they said theyll have more info tomorrow, ill be sure to update. this range i go to doesnt do any kind of background checks or anything, but im sure that will end up changing now

Yea, this is actually the range that my campus 2A club usually goes for regular open shoots. This really is a big time tragedy, pretty shocking thing to happen. Or maybe it just hit close to home, I don't know.
And in response to the earlier comment about how people would notice - I think someone would notice if the shots are a lot closer, not downrange, and someone just went down with a huge amount of blood.
I honestly just don't know what to say with stuff like this.

Every day, every single day a new tragedy. This one on a "smaller" scale but still bad.
I'm not one for more gun control, but there has to be some attempt to keep guns away from people with a history of mental illness. The VT shooter too had a history of mental illness that would have prevented those purchases in many states. Now I know criminals will get gun no matter what, but it looks worse for our cause when the guns are purchased legally.
