SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (abc40) -- Three men are recovering after being stabbed early Sunday morning at a baby shower, according to police.
Police had said the three men were in stable condition Sunday, however they said they have been uncooperative in their investigation.
Police responded to 142 Johnson St., at 4:07 a.m. for what was originally reported as a disturbance involving a gun, according to Springfield Police Department Sgt. John Delaney.
Upon their arrival, there was no disturbance and were told the residents had been hosting a baby shower and several uninvited individuals had come and were escorted out, according to Delaney.
However, two men, aged 19 and 23, later showed up at the emergency room of Mercy Medical Center 25 minutes later with severe cuts to their face and one had a stab wound to his back, according to police. The men were brought to Baystate Medical center, according to police, and allegedly said they had gone to the baby shower for several hours when a violent fight broke out. The men said other party-goers had jumped them and struck them in the face and head with beer bottles and stabbed them, according to Delaney.
While police were speaking with the two men, another victim from the baby shower arrived at Baystate with severe lacerations who claimed to be friends with the two previous victims, according to police.
The 21-year-old man said he had tried to help his friends during the fight at the shower, police said.
The incident is the second triple stabbing in as many days in what had been a violent weekend in Springfield, including the murder of 29-year-old Jose Torres early Saturday morning.
