Maria Soffar, 63, said an armed man put a pistol to her head and beat her when she took out the garbage at their home on Burke Road and Ecuador Drive on Tuesday.
The gunman then forced his way inside the home, where he beat and threatened to kill her and her husband, Saul Soffar, 84. Saul Soffar suffers from Parkinson's Disease.
"When he first came around that corner and he had that gun, I was so scared. I never thought I would be so frightened in my life.," Maria Soffar said. "I asked God, 'Please let us live a little longer. Please, dear God, let us live a little longer.'"
"I think he whipped me cause he wanted to show who the boss was," Saul Soffar said.
Their daughter can't believe her parents were targeted in a home invasion.
"They had some money here. They had their jewelry here. All he had to do is leave, take it and leave. But instead, he chose to put some kind of fear into them by pistol-whipping them, threatening them with their lives. There was no sense for that," said Angela Pullaro, the victims' daughter.
The robber ransacked the house, and escaped with cash and jewelry.
Police do not have much to go on. They are going to try to put together a composite drawing of the gunman.
"Calling Crime Stoppers or calling Pasadena police detectives directly, we'd appreciate any info we could get by either source. But I think we'll be in a little better shape in terms of generating calls along that line (Friday) after we have an image of the suspect through the efforts of the forensic artist," said Assistant Chief Bud Corbett with the Pasadena Police Department.
Anyone with information is asked to call them at 713-477-1221 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. A $5,000 reward is being offered in the case.
