News: Student free after being kidnapped

I ran across this while I was looking for an article for an engineering project I was working on.

    Student free after being kidnapped

Porter said he next saw the man while he was at the register signing his receipt. He looked up and saw the suspect walk out of the store with Porter's Diet Coke.

Porter said he probably should have said something but he was just relieved the man was finally leaving him alone.

"I just wanted to give him what he wanted and not get hurt," he said.
Seeing stories like this reinforce why I will be getting my CCP once I graduate.

Maybe it's just me, but something doesn't ring quite true with this story. I would guess there is more to it.

This guy was more concerned with the welfare of his cat than hat of his own life!

I'd remove the cat from the carrier and turn around to throw it on to the BG while then turning to run to safety.

This guy doesn't even know how ridiculous he sounds as the story reads.
He should not have had his pic taken nor his name referenced.

'So the man couldn't hurt or threaten the cat'??? Whiskey Tango Hotel was the guy thinking? He should have avoided the BG from the first, and when the BG raised his shirt to reveal the gun, taking off running would have been the correct, if undignified, approach (or is it retreat?).

There are quite a few weird ones that go to CofC. Makes me wonder how people who think like he did even got into college in the first place

Look at the guy's photo in the article. At first glance I thought it was a woman. You'd have to be on drugs to want to kidnap someone who looks like that.

    Something is definitely fishy here.

The BG should be charged for making the victim go to North Charleston. to me that is worse than any of the other crimes committed.

As a college professor, I am convinced that college administrators (ours at least) will take someone who is brain-dead as a student if they can get them (or their representative) to pay tuition.

Then they (admin) complain when the college algebra course has a 50% failure rate. Seriously.

This is kind of confusing. I'm glad the student is ok.

Porter said he had read somewhere that it was best to humanize the situation. He tried talking to the man about his family and his studies.
Man, whatever, should have put him in a headlock, ripped his gun away from him and unloaded some hot lead into him, or maybe not, he might not be all Chuck Norris like...

BTW..., wth is up with that pic?
That shirt and hair are really "funny" looking.
What band is he in? Marroon 5?

A good headline for this caper would have been,
"Semi-Transvestite Sort of Kidnapped by Crazy Guy after meeting at Piggly Wiggly parking lot."
The guy is definitely wearing his sisters shirt, and quite possibly her wig too..

Yeah, looking at the student's picture, I'm sure he (she?) was willing to give him a lot of things to not get hurt!
