Summerfield man arrested for trying to steal $600 in coins
Homeowner held suspect at gunpoint until deputies arrived

SUMMERFIELD - A Marion County homeowner held a suspected burglar at gunpoint Wednesday, while waiting for deputies to arrive.

The man said the suspect James Lazarus Day of Summerfield had tried to steal a jug of coins from his bedroom. The jug contained $600 in coins, according to a Marion County Sheriff's Office report.

The man held Day inside the house on SE 198th Terr. Rd. until deputies responded at about 12:20 p.m. Deputies said the victim was armed with a handgun when they arrived.

Day was found inside the home. He told deputies he had come to the home looking for work. But discrepancies in his story led deputies to arrest Day and take him to the Marion County Jail.

He is charged with occupied residential burglary and grand theft.

The dirtbag was looking for work, just not the honest kind...

I guess the homeowner came home 'armed'.

    Stay armed...even when home...stay safe!

$600 in change has got to be pretty heavy.
Is it just me or did the guy almost not get charged ? like this could have been a he said / he said type thing and nothing would have happened ? Was it only the discrepancies in the story that got him arrested ? Never mind that he was in the other guys house ?
    Kind of weird.
