GOOD: Carjacker surprised when would-be victim pulls gun

You gotta love the Gunshine state. Other than mentioning the victim pulled a gun on the BG, there is no other mention of the victim's gun status. It's obvious there is some facts missing if the BG had a gun on her and she still drew her weapon.

Good for the Sheepdog not being a victim. Keep her doors locked next time.

Another victim used his baby to escape carjacking
TAMPA - Adrianna Sauceda was touching up her makeup in her car Monday when a stranger opened an unlocked door and sat down.

She said the man pointed a gun at her and told her, "Get out."

Sauceda pulled out her own gun and told the man the same thing.

"I told him he needed to get out and he screamed and yelled and jumped out of the car," said Sauceda , 31. "He didn't expect me to pull a gun on him. That was my advantage. So once he was surprised, I knew I had the upper hand."

The man ran down a hill and got into a getaway car parked near 3900 W. Kennedy Blvd., she said.

The incident is one of six carjackings or attempted carjackings that have occurred near Kennedy and West Shore boulevards over the past two weeks, Tampa police say.

"We've got to catch these guys before they end up hurting someone else or worse," Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said. "As these suspects have progressed, they have become bolder. They started out doing these at nighttime. Now they're doing them in broad daylight."

Detectives have arrested one man they say is connected to the carjackings and are looking for two other men. The first suspect is black, in his mid- to late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build, short hair and crooked teeth. The man has a medium complexion and is right-handed.

The second suspect is black, in his mid-20s, shorter than 6 feet tall, with a thin build and a chipped or missing tooth. He was last seen wearing chrome rectangular prescription eyeglasses.

The first attempted carjacking was reported on April 27 at the BP gas station on 4139 W. Kennedy Blvd. The most recent incidents occurred Monday. In most cases, the suspects approached people who were alone and had just gotten out of their homes or vehicles or were about to enter them, police say.

"In all of these cases, they targeted people who were alone," McElroy said. "Criminals are opportunists. You don't want to create the opportunity to end up a victim.''

Good job, but she could have avoided this by locking her doors and paying attention to her surroundings.

She should have made the warning louder, MUCH louder.

Glad she was successful, could have been a lot worse.

Yep, as loud as a shot ; it would have been a legit shot.

Thats near two large mall complexes. I used to be in that area when visiting the International Mall. There are countless sheep in some serious rides, with even bigger pockets. Good area to target.

    Be careful out there!

That describes a good 50% of tampa.

Good to hear this guy didnt get away with this. I would have been at a large disadvantage in this scenario. I am legally allowed to keep my XD40 in my glove box, and I do on a daily basis. What would have happened if I had gotten car jacked by this guy?

BG - Get out of the car now (points gun in face)

Me - Hold on, let me get my gun out of my glove box.

I guess thats why I keep my doors locked, still trying to teach the GF the same.

I actually work across the street from that mall. There have been about 5 or 6 carjackings (or attempted) in a 2-3 week period in a several mile radius around here. Never heard a word about them until just before this incident happened. Been wandering around in condition white/yellow the whole time these idiots have been active! Could ahve used more timely warnings I guess.

One incident they actually "kidnapped" the woman for a brief time and then pushed her out of a moving car.

Absolutely right. She's lucky the dude screamed instead of pulling the trigger.

I tell my seminar attendees that you have to understand the rules relating to the use of deadly force so that you know whether you're good to shoot before you ever touch the gun. But having "a reasonably held good faith belief that the assailant presented an imminent threat of serious bodily injury" to her, she should have shot him dead, she should not have sat there working her jaw.

This is an example of "movie training".

So I wouldn't call this one, "good", I'd call it, "not bad". But that was just luck.

Sitting in an unlocked car, totally unaware of surroundings and applying make-up! To a predator, she SCREAMED "I'm an Easy Victim!"

No wonder he was surprised when she pulled out her gun! If he hadn't have misread her so bad, he probably would have shot her first.

I think the main thing that saved her butt was that the bad guy was too stunned at how he misread her as a .

So, I would shy away from saying she was a sheepdog and be more inclined to say she was incredibly lucky.

Still... she did good at responding but she failed miserably in the situational awareness department. I would have shot him as soon as my gun cleared... I wouldn't have offered him a challenge to leave the car!

People should have their keys ready, get in the car, lock the doors and get moving as soon as possible. Sitting in your car fumbling around with stuff is an invitation for attack.

I'm glad it turned out ok.
