Fort Worth police said today that the shooting of an 11-year-old boy who was visiting an apartment appears to have been accidental.

Police said the child and his mother were attending a cookout at an apartment in the 1200 block of East Seminary Drive about 7 p.m. Sunday. The boy found a gun in a back bedroom and was playing with it. The boy was shot in the chest when the gun accidentally fired as an 18-year-old man tried to take it from him.
When police arrived, they found the boy on a walkway outside the apartment. According to a police report, someone had carried the child outside to wait for an ambulance.
The boy was taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in stable condition, police said.
His name and condition were not immediately available this morning.
Luckily he will survive and ( I hope ) learn from this. I wonder if they are going to report when someone is charged for this.

Could have been completely avoidable...

Sad. I don't know why some, who may have well trained kids (or no kids) still don't take into consideration the scenario of what happens when OTHER kids come over to visit.
Tragic. And, like you say, completely avoidable.
Don't frisk me, I am the weapon.
