Most likely a fragment of something hit his eye, or from the side hit.

Usual result of gunshot, all BGs exit real quick!

Good job for the homeowner defending his family and property.

Three arrested after robbery attempt northwest of Houston

By PAIGE HEWITT Copyright 2009 Houston Chronicle
    May 20, 2009, 10:25AM

An accused robber shot in the eye by a homeowner is in the hospital and his alleged accomplices are in custody in connection with two home invasions in northwest Harris County over night, said Lt. Rolf Nelson with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators are looking into whether the two incidents are related. In both — one happened around 10 p.m. followed by another around 2:30 a.m. — three men kicked in the doors of residences.

In the first attempted robbery, at an apartment in the 15900 block of FM 529, the men kicked in the door and shot a dog inside. They fled when they heard police sirens. In the second incident, at a home in the 11900 block of Madison Oak, three men kicked in the door before the homeowner shot one of them, Nelson said. A short while later, three men, one of them shot, arrived at Cy-Fair Hospital.

I have no sympathy for these home invaders. They are lucky they aren't dead. I guess they didn't get the memo about Texans being armed.

    Glad the homeowner wasn't hurt.

Re: getting shot in the eye:

You should not assume that a head shot is fatal, or any location for that matter.

It certainly increases the odds of successfully stopping the threat, but nothing is certain.

They should change there ways now that they have had a near death experience.

An intelligent person would, but if these are average criminals with a bunch of home invasions under their belts I wouldn't hold my breath. Recidivism lives on. Though maybe the guy that was shot in the eye will "see the error of his ways".

    What about the dog!
It just shows they did not have any concern about life.
