    so sad,
so gut-wrenching for the LEOs too, they will have a few tough days ahead of them
its horrible, but no blame can be placed on anyone but her for making a set of bad choices and forcing the officer's hands

one of our officers had to do the same to a fellow that was attempting to carjack people in the wally world parking lot a couple of years ago, he too had a bb gun but you couldn't tell until you picked it up

I actually think this might be a case of suicide by cop.
The girl did not run; she walked. She then pointed the gun at the police and continued to do so after she was shot.

I think police need to look into the family history here.

    Just my two cents.

Very sad but it was clearly this young girl's own choices that assured the inevitable outcome.

I bet the parents are trying to figure pot how to turn this into a very big payday.

I agree. She knew it was only a BB gun and had no other reason to point it.

    police cleared in shooting

Both the local Solicitor (SC's version of a DA) and SLED have cleared the officers in the shooting.

even the local NAACP president says the officers acted properly:Last 29 seconds of teen's life on video | The Herald - Rock Hill, SC

Here is a pic of the "BB gun" she used - it looks just like My Kimber Ultra Carry II...

Turns out the girl was is a (former?) gang member (related story)
15-year-old was first to enroll in local gang program | The Herald - Rock Hill, SC

Full Disclosure: I used to work for this newspaper and know many of the officials in the article (I did not know either of the officers involved).

Sad day for the LEO's but think of how much money was saved by the taxpayers. No 3 squares a day, no 20 years of appeals, no air conditioning and color tv's, no tax payer medical and dental costs. Point a gun, any gun, made of plastic, wood, painted news paper, anything, at a cop and see who wins. Checkmate!!

The LEO's may second quess and have to sort out their emotions about this shooting for a long time to come. It will nag them that it was a BB gun. But, the situation ... I don't think they were given any choice.

It's a shame any younger person gets involved in stupidity and stupid crimes that cost them their lives.

Wow, I haven't been in Rock Hill in over 2 decades. I remember it being a quiet picturesque little college town.

You can't always blame the parents. It's impossible, without keeping them in a cage, to know what teenagers are doing all the time. I've raised three (fortunately good) kids and there's no way to track them 24-07. You just have to hope you've given them the proper lessons and that they listen. Unfortunately this teenager's parents and the officer will have to live with this tragedy. For the rest of their lives they will wonder where they went wrong or if they made a mistake.

You notice how it always seems to be someone else's fault?

You hear this crap all the time: "Someone must have put her up to it"; "he just hung out with the wrong people".

Did it ever occur to these "parents" that maybe their child WAS the wrong people?

My Dad always said that you are entitled to NOTHING. You earn everything you get including respect.

"She was a good kid". BULL!!

Sad that she became what she became.

    Even sadder for the cops.

Hope they can work through this.

No matter what the reason, the death of a child is a waste.

I know I could have been dead or incarcerated several times as a teen due to poor choices, but turned out alright, the potential lost, and dreams destroyed breaks my heart.
