East Liverpool police said a juvenile reported missing from the Ezra Center early Sunday morning was arrested in the East Liverpool Motor Lodge parking lot after he was accused of assaulting a minister of the Grace Baptist Temple.

Police said the juvenile escaped around 1 a.m. and that around 2:30 am., he knocked on minister Gaylord Cox's window at his home, which sits right next to the Temple.

Police Chief McVay said the juvenile told him his car broke down and he needed to use a phone. He said the 82-year-old minister let the young man in, but not without caution.

"He also had a pistol there and he kept it in his pocket, he didn't know who he was letting in," said McVay.

After the phone call, McVay said, the juvenile turned and punched Cox in the face, knocking him to the ground.

"The minister in his mid-80s, fearful for his life, he fired a shot in the general direction of the juvenile, so it was more to protect himself," said McVay.

McVay said the juvenile may have been interested in getting the car keys inside the home so that he could take one of the cars in the temple's parking lot.

The juvenile was taken to the Louis-Tobin Detention Center and faces an assault charge. He could also face an escape charge.

Once again, a reminder to posters to ***please*** post the STATE where this took place, if it's not obvious. "Steubenville" and "Liverpool" are not unique city names in the US.

Perhaps older folks should consider keeping a .410 pistol with shot to defend themselves at home as they are more likely to hit their target. But way to go pastor!!!

    Perhaps something like this?

One would think so, but I doubt that the pastor had a gun in Liverpool, England.

Thugs and punks like this deserve only 'dirtnaps'.

Sorry my bad, it's Jefferson County, Ohio where I was born and lived for many years. Always keep up on the news there.

More like the punk is from "Stupidville" instead of Steubenville.
