CCW holder draws and chases robbers while firing in to ground/air

Im all for people standing up for themselves and family but this guy wasnt in any real danger at the point he grabbed his gun. Im thinking he is probably lucky he isnt in some trouble.

Agreed not the method I would use; though not sure what I would do in that situation. Anyway, I was most impressed that the media correctly identified the victims and felons.

Ya,. Seemed like that would fall into "discharging a firearm within 1/4 mile of a residence" ?? I think that is illegal,. But maybe they turned a blind eye???

I just read the story and was going to post it up here. Figures I was late to the party as usual :)

I thought the headline was positive, but was a little dismayed after reading what actually went down. Warning shots??

Concealed weapons permit holder stops would-be robbers
    June 17th, 2009 @ 1:26pm
MIDVALE -- A man with a concealed weapons permit stopped two would-be Midvale robbers from making off with his friend's stuff.

Police say the men were coming home from an errand around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning when they spotted the suspects with their things. The suspects took off on foot.

One of the men being robbed grabbed a gun from his truck and started running after them.

Midvale police Detective Sgt. John Salazar said, "Grabs a loaded .40-caliber handgun and chases with the gun, shooting rounds either into the air or into the ground as they were chasing."

The gunfire stopped the suspects dead in their tracks. The men held the robbers at gunpoint until police arrived and arrested them.

    No one was hurt.
"Run for your life from the man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. So long as men live together on earth and need means to deal with one another-their only substitute, if they abandon money, is the muzzle of a gun."

He should never have fired into the ground/air...a waste of perfectly good ammo when he had two TX targets...

I'm willing to forget the ground shots...he caught the dirtbags...hope he's not in any difficulties.

    Agreed Yankeeman.

Those rounds fired into the air amongst a residential area don't just disappear into the heavens.
Stupid and unnecessary as well as totally improper.

    Cool

...morning when they spotted the suspects with their things. The suspects took off on foot.

Not sure what the laws are in Utah but it seems to me the guy thought he was in Texas. And to waste the ammo without getting any target practice in.
Glad the guys were arrested and hopefully the victim will not face any charges.

One of those situations where if he would have shot them in the back he could be facing severe charges. Maybe negligent discharge of a firearm with less severe charges. In the end though it was probably good thinking to catch the bad guys and not hurt anyone.
