Bad: 6 yo shoots father on father's day

Soldier home for Father's Day accidentally killed by son | News Bizarre | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

MANILA, Philippines ó Police say a 6-year-old boy accidentally shot dead his father, a soldier home for Fatherís Day after fighting Muslim rebels in the south.

Police Officer Hermogenes Capili says Private First Class Apolonio Pacioles asked his son to fetch his .45 caliber pistol at their home in Manilaís Quezon City suburb early Sunday.

Police Officer Edwin dela Cruz says the boy got the weapon and removed its magazine as his father had taught him, not knowing that a bullet was loaded in the chamber.

Capili says Pacioles ignored the boy who then cocked the gunís hammer with his finger on the trigger and shot his 45-year-old father in the abdomen.

Dela Cruz says the boy and his mother reported the incident to police.

What a tragedy. Hard to know for certain, but it's probably safe to say that the child didn't have quite enough training (at 6), to be left to his own devices, apparently. The kid's going to have to live with that for a long time.

That's terrible, kid was definately too young to be handling a loaded pistol. I carry a 1911 OWB, for now, and sometimes around the house I'll unholster it and put it on a table or something wherever I'm sitting. But if I get up to leave the room my pistol goes with me, even for a short trip.

    My prayers to the family.

WOW.. And that is over in the Philippines?? I wouldn't have my kids handling any pistol without my supervision.. I give the dad tons of credit for teaching them young, but I'm thinking he wasn't quite there yet.. Sad for sure..

Who would let ANY child pick up (let alone send him for the gun) a gun and watch him cock it......not good in so many ways.

Yup, definite failure there for sure. Not sure why you would let your kid point your pistol at you, loaded or "unloaded."

Whether or not the kid had training it's a very sad thing to read. I will admit the father was in the wrong by letting his 6yr old son grad his 45. But even then i'm sure he didn't expect that, i'm very sorry to the family and my prayers are with you. Damn, a man that was fighting for our rights and country....so sad!

Nope kid was not old enough or ready to be fetching dads gun, and dad was not thinking to send the kid after it in the first place.

More terrible than the dads death is that the kid will probably never get over what happened, nor will the mom either.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Boy I guess there aren't enough headlines in the US this week for the anti agenda. Now we have to look overseas to find stories that make guns look evil.

Teaching kids about guns and gun safety is awesome. This kid was to young to be handling a gun witout better supervision. I hope the kid finds some way to deal with this without to many problems.
