    Typical flawed logic from Kalifornia.

When I first saw this rule,I couldn't figure out what it was for.
The reason; If you have your own gun and are suicidal, why bother going to a range in the first place.
If you rent a gun and are with a friend, they assume no body would expose a friend to ones own suicide.
I originally thought that this rule could only be needed in CA but I now see I may have been wrong.
I can only wonder what desk jockey dreamed this up. When I was an LEO I had an incident where a man went into his kitchen while his wife and kids were having breakfast. He said "Look at me", when they did, he shot himself.

I ought also to note that it wouldn't surprise me if someone at the range told you that. There is an appalling lack of knowledge of California gun laws among range and gun store employees - and a fair number of owners truth be told - in this state (paranoid rumors are frequently stated as sacred truth). I don't know if this is a function of ranges and gun stores in this state or if it applies to gun stores in general.

    Now that's just sick.

When I went in to the Army I had heard stories of people on the firing line trying to take themselves out before.

Our range cadre also warned us that if any one of us tried it we would not succeed but would certainly wake up with a very bad headache from his boot.

It seems it only happens at gun ranges that rent guns. That's why I don't go to them.

Life can present many problems and frustrations, and for some, this appears the only solution.
At least he didn't involve anyone else, as some of the other shootings (in ranges) have done.
Somewhere, there is a family trying to figure out, why?
Sometimes, the problem is permanent; I have seen the life of a woman whose husband had Parkinson's disease ... it made me understand why a neighbor of my inlaws shot himself after being diagnosed with Parkinson. He left a note saying he was sorry but he had to do it while he could...
There are circumstances where I would consider it, to avoid years of grief of my wife pushing me in a wheelchair, having to feed me, clean me, etc...
    Each case is different ...
The first rule of a gunfight: "Don't be there !"
The second rule: "Bring enough gun"

Both of my grandparents were diagnosed with parkinsons, jfl. They made a suicide pact and killed themselves when I was 5 months pregnant and unable to make it back for the funeral. The problem may have been permanent, but I still believe that the solution was selfish. I don't judge them for it, who knows what they were going through. All I know is what it's like to be the surviving family member, and it still hurts deeply.
