Police Chief major OOOPS!!!!!
A Carter Lake, Iowa Police Sergeant is hospitalized, after a gun handled by the police chief discharged.
Thursday, July 9, 2009
Carter Lake Police Sergeant Dan Driver will be okay, after he was hit in the torso by a bullet Wednesday afternoon inside the department's headquarters.
Officials with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's office, which is assisting in the investigation, say a group of officers were discussing guns, when a firearm handled by Police Chief Shawn Kannedy accidentally discharged, hitting Sgt. Driver
Chief Kannedy has been placed on standard administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
Just the type of guy you would want to dis-arm you in a traffic stop!!!

Well, he didn't miss?
I wonder what would happen to two friends having this happen to one of them in someone's garage...arrest, charges, trial, jail time? Or perhaps just admin leave?

How about two non-LEO co-workers at a job site where they were legal? Think he'd keep his employment? Doubtful!

Thats because handling weapons is not part of the non LEO's job. Because the department is to provide the training, the muncipality has to accept some level of responsibility for its employee's actions.

I assume though, if he is found negligent, he will face charges for such like anyone else would??

Hmm. Isn't the 'chief' sometimes the one that you can't fire so you promote them?

But they shouldn't have there weapon out on the job unless it is needed..
BTW- The company I used to work for at one point allowed people to carry. One day someone decided to show and tell (loaded) and it got in the wrong hands and that person discharge it,. Ya,. No-one got hurt, but a no-weapon's was put in the employee handbook.. GRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
