The sorrowful thing about this is that the problem with law enforcement and the military is the only place they can recruit is from the human race and it ain't perfect. Another reason to be aware of your surroundings and able to protect yourself regardless of whom you think is coming to your aid. Just because you think it's so doesn't mean everyone else does also.
The article:
BAYTOWN (KTRK) -- Authorities surrounded a home in the Tower Terrace neighborhood across from the Houston Raceway Park in Baytown. Officials have confirmed a Chambers County Sheriff's deputy was fatally shot in a confrontation at that home.

The day long standoff started early this morning in a dispute with the water company. Authorities tell Eyewitness News the water company came out around 8:30am to shut off the water to the home, when a woman came out and fired a few gunshots but missed. That's when the Chambers County Sheriff's deputies and a state trooper got involved, and the man, apparently the woman's boyfriend, opened fire and killed a deputy.
The trooper and deputies were trapped in the backyard until the Baytown SWAT team got them out and the man holed himself up inside the home.

Neighbors were allowed to either evacuate across the street at the Houston Raceway Park or shelter in place.
One resident said, "My daughter is a little scared of what's going on in the neighborhood,"
We are told the water company is Monarch Utilities and the worker who came out was not injured. There are also reports that the suspect in the home may be a former police officer from Liberty County with possible mental issues.

Killed over not paying for water,They need to put them at the front of the line on death row when they finally surrender, because chickens like them always do,then claim self defense or mental problems

Trying to picture how that conversation went off in the house prior to the conflict... how do you go from pissed you're gonna have no shower to killing a cop? These two deserve Darwin awards.
And if he was terminated from being an LEO due to mental health issues and a possible threat to himself or others then he should have been denied gun ownership,On the other hand after a meter reader getting shot at ,I would have surrounded the property and ordered them out,not tried to confront an armed barricaded suspect

Update: Deputy Killed In Line Of Duty Grieved - Houston News Story - KPRC Houston
Suspect was found dead in his home around 7:45 pm last night. Police haven't confirmed whether or not it was a self inflicted wound or if it was from the initial shootout.
Another prime example of someone blowing something WAY out of proportion.
Sad for the deputy...sad for his family and co-workers, but the dirtbag is now gone too...less for taxpayers to deal with there.![]()

I wonder how he treated the public when he was in uniform?

Crazy things happen.
Sorry for the Deputies' family and friends, after just 2 months on the job so he could spend more time with his family. What a waste.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

From the story:What was the disposition of the Woman that took the first shots?
"As for Legett, she was taken into custody and has been charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest."
Interesting also that he had "a signifigant amount of explosives" in the home. Of course that could be the news media trying to sensationalize.
If they ever cleared out my place, I'm sure they'd paint me as a terrorist because of 25 lbs of fertilizer in the garage and diesel fuel (not to mention reloading supplies). Case
