South Bend Tribune: Man urinating in South Bend alley accidentally shoots self
Man urinating in South Bend alley accidentally shoots self
STAFF REPORT
SOUTH BEND — Police say a man who went to the hospital Wednesday morning with a gunshot wound accidentally shot himself.
The 21-year-old man told police he had stopped to urinate in an alley between Vassar and Humboldt streets just before 3:30 a.m., when his gun accidentally discharged.
The man, who has a permit to carry the gun, took himself to the hospital, where police were called.
Police say the gun was apparently in the man's pocket, as there was no bullet hole on the outside of his jeans.
The bullet went through the man's upper thigh and exited below his knee. The injury is not expected to be life-threatening.
Note that the comments, most of which are negative, are directed at the gun and not the actions. I lose another drop of faith in humanity every time I see something like this, and another when I see people's reactions...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Would you lose faith in me if I admitted that I got a chuckle out of this?

No, I got a good chuckle out of it...that's reasonable. But the event, and the reactions of many, are just sad...but still funny. If that makes any sense.

Phew...that was 'close'.

Nearly removed himself from the gene pool. He might learn from this experience!
There is a purpose for everyone, even if it's just being a bad example.

Oh the perils of public urination when pocket carrying without a holster.

Wonder if he color-coded his shorts - yellow in front, brown in back?

Think maybe this gun has a defect? I would get a holster.

Now, when thinking of the reasons I might be tempted to urinate in a public alley at 3:30 in the morning, one really jumps to mind, and that would be lots of alcohol (not that I would do anything but I went to enough house parties in college to know that others aren't as considerate.) I could of course, be wrong about that, but I somehow doubt it.
Sounds like he could use some firearm training.

3:30 a.m., when his gun accidentally discharged.
these guns need to get control of themselves. running around to party's, staying up at all hours, its no wonder so many of them are accidentally discharging lately.

Nearly removed his ABILITY to participate in the gene pool...
The first rule of self-defense is to avoid the situation. The second rule is Train and Prepare.
