I just got this as an email warning about AD/ND from a friend. The videos are hard to make out because they're from witnesses' cell phones during the confusion.
Here's the news story with both videos:
LiveLeak.com - News Report; BART police shooting of unarmed man
And the follow up story, the officer was arrested:
BART officer arrested on murder warrant in NY Day shooting
First of all, let me please say that I think this is just a horrible tragedy for everyone involved and their families.
Second, did this look like an AD/ND to you? I have a theory about what happened, I'm especially wondering what the LEOs here think. I think maybe the officer saw the guy was struggling, and reached for what he THOUGHT was his taser. And in the melee, pulled the trigger thinking he was tasing the guy. Could that be possible? It didn't seem like he was out to murder him or anything. (But again, hard to tell with the poor quality cell-phone videos and all.) Not that it would justify what happened, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around it being intentional and the officer in question thinking it was a justifiable use of deadly force. They say he hasn't commented on it yet.
What do you guys all think?
