The good news is the guy successfully defended himself. The bad news is that the attacker will probably get off with a slap on the wrist, and be right back out committing crimes within a matter of months, if not weeks.

will end up feeling he has suffered enough.

As well this and many other stories of same kind of throw cold water on the theory/idea that you can't beat a drawn weapon.
Very many people have and continue to do so. A little subterfuge may be involved in the way of playing meek and weak to buy a tactical and/or timing advantage, but it most definitely can be and is done.
