MIDWAY--Everyone reacts a little differently to receiving bad news. But it appears as if Brandon Murray snapped.

The 27-year-old had worked for two years at Alert Ambulance in the Midway area. The company's website lists him as a "fleet manager". In May 2008, he won employee of the month. The website then described him as one of the "most compassionate, professional, and respectable EMT alert has."

But, for some undisclosed reason, he was let go. "Mr. Murray was suspended on Friday, August 21st and was terminated on August 24, 2009" said Burley Wright, vice president of operations for Alert Ambulance.

On the same day of his termination, police received a call around 11:40 AM. "[Alert Ambulance] indicated that an employee of their's called the business and was threatening them, saying he would 'hurt everyone in the office'" said San Diego Police Department spokeswoman Mónica Muñoz.

Police came to Alert Ambulance and then Murray called back, again threatening to come in.

Muñoz said plain clothed officers went to Murray's home and waited until he got into his car. "They did a high risk stop on him. It was very safe, nothing happened on the stop and they were able to take him into custody."

But during the stop, police spotted four, semi-automatic loaded handguns in his vehicle. "In and of itself owning a firearm is not illegal. What is illegal in this case was a) the threats he made and b) the fact that he was carrying those firearms loaded within his reach."

Murray was booked on two counts of "threatening to commit a crime" (422 PC) and a separate count of spousal abuse (273.5 PC). He spent a night in jail and posted bail for $125,00.

Wright of Alert Ambulance said "we are very thankful to our current staff, our HR department, the SDPD for intervening so quickly on this incident."

And Muñoz thanked employees for making the call in the first place. "If the employees had not taken it seriously and had not had the presence of mind to notify us, who knows what could have happened?"

EMT is a high stress job, and it's obvious it got to this particular individual.

I'm not making excuses for him, he deserves to do hard time for this.

The fact he made threats coupled with four loaded firearms in his vehicle makes me think he was gonna carry out a plan of revenge, good thing cops got him first, but this is still a good reason to be armed in the work place just in case he didn't decide to give a heads up

    The threat isn't over.

He's out of jail, and can likely get more weapons (I'm assuming the 4 were kept by the police).

The police spokeswoman seems to think the threat is over:
And Muñoz thanked employees for making the call in the first place. "If the employees had not taken it seriously and had not had the presence of mind to notify us, who knows what could have happened?"
I wonder if we'll hear about Brandon Murray on the national news within a few days.
But it appears as if Brandon Murray snapped.
If he did snap, has he unsnapped, or is he still a threat? IMO the bail should have been higher, or perhaps no bail allowed.

I agree, this personal remains a "clear and present danger".

The indicators all seem to point to his being a couple inches short on the fuse, and a couple degrees off of plumb.

Allow employees to carry, a shotty for me, move my desk to the front entrance, station an armed guard at the rear entrance, and file a restraining order against crazy boy with guns. In that order.

Since this was in San Diego, legally I might have to substitute an armed guard for me with the shotty, and the employees might be on their own, sadly. If that's the case, I might hire a private investigator to watch crazy boy in order to give us a warning if it looks like he is planning on shooting up the place.

I darn sure ain't gonna sit around and hope crazy boy doesn't blow another gasket, while doing nothing for my own or my employees' protection.

Unfortunately, many people do not phone in their threats ahead of time. The guy has issues, for sure. I'm afraid of what he might try in the future.
