Oh, but I think it must be coming back. I work on a college campus and I've happened to notice several of the incoming students wearing their hat sideways since the fall semester started.

One of the "goody two shoes" I went to high school with shot himself in the calf one night at the A&W showing the car hop (this was in 1968) his fast draw. He proved his trigger finger was fast than his draw. Lucky for him the bullet merely grazed the bck of his calf and he was only a block from the local hospital.

How in heck do you engage the trigger while attempting to pay for a taco? Methinks he was there for the legendary "free lunch". Too bad the wound wasn't a little closer to the centerline.

As well I live in a college town amongst five colleges, and I do volunteer work amongst a fraternity I'd adopted several years back..

The style these days is not sideways but either flat brim fully forward or flat/curved brim and hat worn slightly askew at an angle, but no where near sideways as it had been back in the 80s.

    Current fashion

    Long out of fashion

Sideways hat fashion has largely been gone for some time along with beat boxing and the Fat Boys. Honest.
Not that how one wears their hat in any direction has any effect on nor relation to how they may or may not possess and handle a firearm.

    Janq,

I meant no offense or disrespect with my comment about the hat, music or any of that. If I did, I appologize. It was just a personal observation. I see a lot of that where I live, maybe we in WV are just playing "catch up" to the rest of the world.

Heck, I just heard about a new musical group from England called "The Beatles."

I didn't say anything because he was a avid shooter and I figured he was gonna any second move his thumb to the hammer. BANG! Ooops!

The line was full of cars and I had to move him to the passenger side and drive his azz to the hospital. YA should have seen the looks from the folks in the drivethru line when I help him hobble over to the other side of the truck.

Craziest thing about this whole thing was, he was a marksman in the military.
Why did he feel the need to be fiddling with his gun in the drive-thru at McD's?

Close confines, seat belt straps, seated position, lots of distractions... Seems like an accident waiting to happen.

or would that be "negligence waiting to happen?"

You know.......1-4am were the usual times I'd drive through Taco Bell. Good late night munchies if the staff is up to par. If they aren't, or they are out of something, it can make for a real bad trip. Shooting yourself while at a Taco Bell drive though would be the ultimate in bad trips if I do say so.
Mild sauce, hot sauce, fire sauce, or blood with those burritos? Ouch!

Negligent discharges are fairly common amongst military men and law enforcement officers (LEO's).

They tend to consider themselves firearms "experts", simply because they carry firearms on duty. Most military and law enforcement firearms training programs leave a lot to be desired, and a large number of personnel don't practice very often after their initial training qualification courses.

Take the four day handgun course at Front Sight or the 250 handgun course at Gunsite, and you'll be better trained than the vast majority of military personnel and LEO's in this country.

A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.
