Associated Press - September 1, 2009 3:35 PM ET

SALEM, Va. (AP) - A judge has ordered 40 hours of community service for two men charged in connection with the discharge of a rifle during a July gun show in Salem.

Salem General District Court Vincent Lilley also ordered David Jack Gold and Thomas Ray Allen on Tuesday to pay $10 in restitution to the Salem Civic Center for damage. Gold also was fined $250.

Gold is a gun dealer from Bland. Police say Gold and Allen were replacing the stock on a military-style antique rifle when the gun accidentally discharged and shot the floor.

Gold was charged with obstruction of justice and recklessly handling a firearm. Allen was charged with recklessly handling a firearm.

The charges will be dismissed if the men comply within a year.
