They are still searching suspect.

Neighbors told police they did attempt to chase after the van but stopped after the suspect fired several gunshots out a window.

This is a upscale neighborhood. Seems the victim and the neighbors didn't think they would need a weapon. They were wrong. I have often said when the inner city stole everything they could there they would move west....they did.

Good point so far as thieves move to better pickings. They want to steal where people actually have something. A group of 3 young people last week, stole checks, ipods and various other items from un-locked cars in my neighborhood. Police arrested 2 of them trying to cash a forged check in a nearby city. My widowed female neighbor awoke to her dog raising cain one night last week. She heard someone jiggle her doorknob. The doors were locked, she has an alarm and a bunch of guns. These young people were fortunate they left her alone, as she would not hesitate to 'take action'. Maybe more people will become aware that it can happen anywhere.

Update:
KCK police say woman found safe after abduction
Kansas City, Kan., police staged an intensive search tonight for a woman who was allegedly kidnapped by a man robbing her home near 82nd Street and Berger Avenue.
The 46-year-old victim was found 3½ hours later, around 8:30 p.m., in the northeast part of Kansas City, Kan.
Police did not give any details about her condition. They were still searching for the suspect late Thursday night.
Neighbors called police around 5 p.m., after they witnessed a heavyset man force the victim into a white van, according to Sgt. Emmett Lockridge of the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department.
She had allegedly walked in on the man while he was burglarizing her home, Lockridge said. When neighbors outside at the time of the kidnapping tried to intervene and chase the van on foot, the man fired multiple gunshots out his window as he drove southbound on 82nd Street.
Lockridge said he does not think the woman knows the suspect.

Thank God they found her alive. Given the part of town she was found in...I wouldn't have given her good odds on that. Like I said...when the northeast part of town found nothing else to steal....they started hitting the west part.
Her guardian angel was watching over her tonight.
