Our permits are tied to the drivers license, not the vehicle license plates.

The officer has to approach you and retrieve your drivers license and run it before he will learn you are a ccw. Unless you inform him at the time of contact, which is not required.

I inform them as a courtesy since as soon as they run your license they will find out. I just feel that in the back of their mind, they appreciate knowing up front before they turn their back on me and return to their vehicle to run the info.

The entire story is BS as far as I'm concerned.

In NC when they run the license plate on the vehicle the info for the registered owner comes up. If you click to view that info it says I have a CHP. So one click from the license plate is my permit info. I figure most cops check that link first.
