I'm guessing they are just piling on charges to make an example of him.

Reckless endangerment should be sufficient, but they want to make a point!

    Just my opinion.

Maybe the occupants in the house that this northern
Cival War buff fired on made the grave mistake of wearing
    grey coats.

Um, how do you ACCIDENTALLY fire a cannon?

Seriously. I've never seen one other than in Bugs Bunny cartoons. Is it possible to have an AD with one?

As ever, he's responsible for every round that leaves his artillery piece. A sane person won't fire their handgun where there's no good back stop and he can't control the destination of his projectile. Cannon, I'd say, deserves at least the same level of care.

Any gun that can be fired on purpose can also be fired accidentally!

I saw a soldier accidentally fire a 155mm howitzer when the lanyard got caught on his gear. When he backed away from the breech he fired the gun!

    (Boy was he embarrassed!)

I believe it's safe to say that he intentionally fired the cannon, but unintentionally hit the house.

I don't think he gave consideration to the possibility that the cannonball might hit something and ricochet into the neighbor's home.

Another hard lesson learned by a single careless act.

Ok, that makes more sense. I couldn't picture Bugs not knowing he was lugging some huge heavy cannon ball into the thing and then lighting the wick. Thanks.

Which is why I often make the point that not everything bad that happens should or needs to be treated as a crime.

This incident can be settled up between the two homeowners and their insurance companies. Nothing much gets gained by prosecuting.

Everyone makes mistakes and we don't need to make everyone a criminal.

THAT SUCKS!!! For more than 1 reason. My wife is originally FROM uniontown and we are moving back there within the week..... Great, according to city-data the violent crime rate is high, now I have to worry about a cannon ball crashing through my living room..

Guess this guy is a REAL loose cannon.
bet the prosecutor uses that one in
court when speaking to the jury about
the case. Be an open and shut verdict after
    the jury hears that one.

On the plus side, at least he agreed not to fire his cannon in the neighborhood anymore. Nothing like a genius that realizes the hazards of his actions after he does something. Risk management is obviously not his strong point.
