Next time he should rob the Episcopals or the Unitarians or the Lutherans. Those places revere 'victimhood' and should be safe places to rob.

please leave your bigoted denomination bashing at the door. This thread isnt about bashing denominations that you feel are inferior to your denomination. Bashing will not make your denomination better, it only serves to show you have little faith in yours.

I'm sure the LEO mentality is hard to forget, but as citizens, we have to think of our personal safety. In confronting burglary, you can be seen as escalating the possibility for violence as well as making a target of yourself and anyone near you. Thankfully, the minister survived, but it's a lesson many will misconstrue. Praise the Lord and pass the ammo (what you can find.)

Did the pastor do anything wrong? No, not in my opinion.
Could an application of different tactics avoided the shooting? Yes.
I believe had the pastor remained in his vehicle yet remain watchful, until police arrived, he could have avoided the shooting.
When he arrived on scene, and noticed the open door, there were two situations at hand.
1) The intruder had already left the scene. In which case, no danger existed and no reason why he couldn't have waited until police arrived and let the police clear and inspect the church and then file a report.
2) The intruder was still on the premises in which the best person to clear the structure and investigate, lies with the police.
The pastor could safely remain outside the building in a relative position of safety and provide overwatch until police arrived.
If the intruder attempted to leave before the police arrived, the pastor could issue a challenge to the intruder from behind a position of cover/safety and either force the intruder to retreat back into the church or cause him to flee.
If the intruder flees, the pastor is still in a position of safety, can provide details of description of the intruder and what direction he fled when police arrive.
In the case where there was more than one intruder, the pastor would be in a much better position of safety by remaining outside and at a distance.
He still had his firearm to defend himself if he were to be fired upon or were attacked
Again, did the pastor do anything wrong by acting the way he did. Technically, no. He was within his rights to investigate and secure his property.
However, had he chose different tactics, I believe the entire shooting situation could have been avoided and the pastor would have remained in a position of better safety and less risk to himself.

Good for him! And I'm glad the BG is worse for wear. To bad he left Peter at the gate.

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.
