Bad: Walmart Employee Threatens to Shoot Manager

Here's another black eye for us law abiding CCW'ers. This guy must be stupid.

ksl.com - Police identify former Walmart employee accused of threatening to shoot manager

    October 8th, 2009 @ 4:45pm
CENTERVILLE -- Police released the identity of the fired Walmart worker who threatened to kill a manager and then returned to the store with a gun at his hip.

Joshua Cerka, 21, was booked into the Davis County Jail on Wednesday on a charge of possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to commit an assault. He has since been released on bail.

Tensions first sparked on Sept. 30, when police said Cerka was fired and escorted from the Walmart at 221 W. Parish Lane. He came back to cash his payroll check and told two workers he was going to kill the manager and shoot him in the face.

On Sunday and Monday, investigators said Cerka called the store, asking if the manager was there. Police said he finally returned Wednesday, wearing a .45-caliber Ruger pistol in a holster on his hip.

Lt. Paul Child of the Centerville Police Department said, "[He] walked through the store. He did find the manager. When the manager saw him, the manager took off hurriedly and then called for police."

The officers who responded to the store were aware of Cerka's threats.

"So they approached it as a very dangerous situation," Child said.

Investigators said they didn't definitively know Cerka's reasons for coming back to the store. He had changed his appearance by bleaching his hair.

"It sure appeared to us that he was taking action that was consistent with his threat of shooting the employee in the face," said Child.

Child said Cerka had a concealed weapons permit, which had it not been for the threats, would have allowed him to wear the gun visibly.

"Losing your job is a pretty tough thing to go through," Child said. "People sometimes react in ways they really should not react."

The Davis County Attorney's Office is screening the case for formal charges.

A CHL carrier in the news, for making overt threats of death and carrying out several explicit actions toward that goal. Johnnie is in deep doo-doo, now, for his half-steps toward the "aggravated assault / murder" end of the pool.

There is no statement in the report that this guy was one of us.

It's just another crazy person acting criminally, while possessing/carrying a firearm.
No clue if he was licensed to carry at all.

He is not like me, and likely not like any of the rest of us, and I and we do not walk around telling people we are going to shoot people in the face (!) never mind showing up at peoples jobs looking for them and making overt threats.

Other than the statement by one of the officers:

Lt. Paul Child of the Centerville Police Department ... said Cerka had a concealed weapons permit, which had it not been for the threats, would have allowed him to wear the gun visibly.
Who's to say, though I'm supposing the police involved in the investigation wouldn't have said it if it weren't true. Still, reporters have been known to get things wrong, early on.

Yes he was licensed to carry legally. It's in the article.

Child said Cerka had a concealed weapons permit, which had it not been for the threats, would have allowed him to wear the gun visibly.

All the local TV stations are reporting that he was in fact, a permitted carrier. Here's another local report:

    http://connect2utah.com/content/news/story?cid=55611

A disgruntled former employee was arrested Wednesday after walking into the Centerville Wal-Mart with a gun and confronting the store manager who recently fired him.

Joshua M. Cerka, 21, was arrested and booked into Davis County Jail on the charge of possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to assault, according to Centerville police.

Two employees told police that on Wednesday, after Cerka was fired, he came back into the store to cash his check. While there, he told workers at the service desk that he was going to kill the manager and shoot him in the face.

After several calls to Wal-Mart inquiring if the manager was there, Cerka came back to the store a week later with a 45 Ruger pistol. He approached the manager who then quickly left the area and told workers to call police.

Cerka was arrested by police in the store without further incident.

Investigators say Cerka does have a concealed weapon permit.

It does seem there are a larger number of CHL types getting themselves into the news via murderous, heinous or stupid actions, doesn't it?

Simple numbers, given the extreme rise in the number of people going after a CHL, I would think. For every million more legal carriers, we're going to get a couple hundred who will end up psychotic, deranged or otherwise criminal in their nature. It's inevitable, IMO.

I believe we have a large quantity of new, less experienced permit holders this year than last. At 21 this guy was one of them.

We can only hope the rest use much better judgment.

This i believe is going to become a more common occurance. This i also believe is one of the "weapons" that the anti's are going to use in their fight.

    It is.

IRL I have had just that discussion and 'fight' as with an anti over concern of allowing non-police citizens right to carry arms o their person. That person being my wife. :|

    We do not need this.
    It's making my life hard(er).

"He bleached his hair"...so as not to be identified?
I think police are working a 'maroooon' case here...

This guy won't be legally licensed anymore.
