Intruder Killed by legal pistol (Oswego, NY)

Intruder killed during home invasion : News : WSTM NBC3

SCHROEPPEL -- Oswego County Sheriff's deputies say an intruder was shot and killed during a home invasion in Schroeppel Saturday night.

Officers say 48-year-old Deanna Candee and her 25 year old son Adam came back to their house on Hilltop Drive at about 8:30pm and found an intruder inside. Deputies tell Action News a violent struggle ensued. During the fight, Deanna Candee grabbed a pistol and shot the intruder. He has been tentatively identified as 39 year old Timothy Hartigan.

Hartigan was pronounced dead at the scene. Deanna Candee was taken to Crouse Hospital by ambulance. Adam Candee was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Investigators say Candee legally owns the handgun that was used.

The investigation into the incident is continuing. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Oswego County Sheriff's Department at (315) 349-3411.

So instead of "Good shooting! Here's a medal, thanks for ridding society of a menace!", all they get is "Who does the pistol belong to?"
Anti-gunners seem to believe that if we just pass enough laws, we can have utopia. Unfortunately, utopia is NOT one of our choices.

I'd breathe a lot easier when (IF?!) I see where it says..."no charges are expected to be filed against the homeowner..." The article only says an "...investigation..... is continuing...."
Let's HOPE that no charges are filed against the VICTIM!

good job, fighting to survive under dire circumstances

the way the story reads, I think she didn't have the gun on her/in her purse, to say she is very fortunate is an understatement since it sounds like the BG didn't have a gun on him
good job on her keeping her mindset and getting to that gun and winning the fight

If loose gun laws are good for criminals why do criminals support gun control?

Well FWIW on the news they've said no charge are being filed. In fact the responding officer was given a commendation for his response to the situation.

Apparently when he got there the woman and her son were outside the house while the intruder was still inside. The woman was not sure if the man was dead or wounded at that time. So the officer had to clear the house and confirm the intruder was shot.

The intruder had a clump of the woman's hair in his hand according to police.
