I find that very hard to believe. England is supposed to be safe because nobody is allowed to have handguns.

Good Point..... These are Illegal guns!!!!
Somebody please point this out to the crims... Handguns are banned in the UK!!!!
The problem we have is Europe is only 20 miles from us, very easy to drive across into the former soviet states, I'm told an AK (full auto) and ammo can be had for $200, yes that is green backs!!

The funniest thing about guns, doesnt matter where you are in the world give me a week and I can get a gun.
I know not what this "overkill" means.
Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.

Probably only 100 Euros, these days...
On a more serious note, with the Continent so close via ferry or tunnel, what level of Customs inspection is required if you use your own vehicle - is it searched?

I have a VW T5 Van (small Truck)
I get stopped ever time going out and sometimes coming back (you could smuggle people in it, that is why they stop me)
Last year going out Newhaven to Dieppe, they (security) pulled me over and asked to see in the back, he then asked was I carrying any knifes
I said what do you think? We are staying in a remote house doing our our catering.
We quietly borded with no more stupid questions.
Very easy to bring anything back from France, highly unlikely to be stopped and searched.
You might find this interesting, British Police/Customs are stationed in France and the French customs are also in the UK!!
