A Missouri City man was able to get the drop on a pair of armed robbers Wednesday, shooting one several times as the other fled, authorities said.

The resident, 20, was working on a car in the driveway of his parents’ home on Glenwild at Hickory Glen about 3 p.m. when the robbers pulled up in a gold-colored Toyota Avalon.

Two men got out of car, including one who was carrying a rifle, Missouri City police said.

“They rushed the 20-year-old and started demanding money,” said Missouri City Police Capt. John Bailey.

The man told the robbers he didn’t have any money.

“But, they didn’t believe him,” Bailey said. “They forced him into the house.”

After he was forced upstairs, the man managed to grab a pistol and began shooting at the attackers, striking one several times, Bailey said.

The man later told police he didn’t know the robbers.

Police said a blood trail started in a second-floor bedroom and ended in the driveway, where the wounded attacker collapsed.

He was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The resident received minor injuries during a scuffle with the robbers. He was treated at an area hospital.

The robbers sound like a pair of real dummies, allowing their victim to turn the tables on them after forcing him inside. He was fortunate. Much better to have a gun ON YOU rather than having to retrieve it after getting back inside. I would have been in condition orange when I saw them pull in the driveway...like I said, he was lucky. Good for him.

Could've gone better, but it could've gone mch much worse. Good courage to get the gun and start firing.

Lucky for him they forced him inside the home. As stated above, would have been better to be prepared in the 1st place.
    Overall though, a good outcome.

This is exactly why I carry when I am around the house or the woods working.

This victim is lucky that they didn't shoot him once inside the house.

When you spot three guys getting out of their car in YOUR driveway with a gun...the loud sounds and bright flashes are going to start quite quickly.

Being at the top of the stairs shoot down the stairs made a good choke point. They could not get around behind him and he had high ground top of stairs. Good work and being 20 years old this event will shape his life and the way he thinks. He could not get his CHL until he is 21, but he could be carrying on family property now.

I am glad it worked out ok, and does not leave deep scars on the life of the victim.

Probably more to the story, but that right there is enough for me. Maybe our shooter is a little shady, maybe not. Doesn't really matter to me, we know that the guy he shot was a dirt bag, so at least for today, it is ok in my book.

Aren't those life flight rides exspensive. Who's gonna pay for that?

That took place in Texas! Missouri City is a Houston suburb.

The email address is for the reporter who wrote the story.
