Is there any more info on what caused the issue in the first place. The info in the article is sparse to say the least.
where a 61-year-old man reported to be armed with handguns barricaded himself into a home
So was it not his home? Is that what started it? If it was his home...***? See below:
Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, Avon police received a report about a barricaded subject with a hostage in Wildridge, Kozak said. However, police assessed the situation and found the man had taken no hostages, he said.

The man was alone in the house and reported to have two firearms, Kozak said.
Looks to me like maybe he pissed off his ex or something....

Gee, I'm barricaded in my house with handguns every day.
    No one seems to notice.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Me, too.

Do you notice that whenever an armed guy goes into a house or building, the news media report that the subject "barricaded" himself?

When I hear the word "barricade," I have visions of overturned vehicles blocking doorways, or at the very least, a couch or a refrigerator pushed up against the door inside to prevent it from being easily knocked down.. some difficult obstacle exists between the person inside and everyone outside. But no - today's news actors think that any armed person retreating indoors represents a "barricade" situation.

    OK, rant <off>.

Forty officers, bomb squad, robot team for 10hrs ... all to keep a guy from killing himself.

I wonder how many other calls to the precinct failed to get covered, due to this consumption of resources.

I wonder if anyone died due to non-response by the police during that time period.

Legitimizing the target is part of the media's role. "Normal," everyday folk simply cannot be taken down if they've merely opted to stay indoors today (armed or not).
