Fake General outed in my hometown

Wow, dude gets out of the Corps as a Segent and decided to promote himself to General.

I read the original article in the local paper, it had some line that perked my ears as possible embellishment, but I didn't expect this.

How do people think that they can get away with such foolishness in today's tech-savy world?
Anyone can pretty much find out anything about you that was either printed or entered into a computer.

    Was that General 'Maroooon'?

Posing is bad enough, but former military members have no excuse because we know better.

"I don't want to bring any discredit to the Marine Corps, because I love it," Weber said, adding that he didn't want to go into detail about why he falsely held himself as a two-star general.

It was unclear if Weber could face prosecution under the 2005 Stolen Valor Act, which makes it a crime to fraudulently wear military medals.

Weber showed up for the celebration wearing the dress uniform of a major general and sporting an array of medals.
I think it is very clear, he deserves to be prosecuted plus a public apology to all active duty and veterans.

With regard to prosecution, I think our VFW would be getting in touch with law enforcement and the prosecutor to keep this case on the front burner. We have a lot of voters and this is something that we could all get behind. I imagine it is no different in San Diego.

    A two star General.

That's pretty ambitious. Its not like there are just a lot of them walking around. It was just a matter of time till he was found out.

What in the world was he thinking?

My wife told me I am a general nuisance.
    Does that count?

Why would an enlisted Marine want to pretend he was an officer, much less a general? Makes me wonder if he was a few rounds short of a full magazine...

Must be a few round short. The article in our paper detailed his long and distinguished career, from riding that famous last chopper out of Siagon, to clandestine missions he still couldn't talk about in central America. The must think he's John Clark (from Tom Clancy novels) or something. He admits to lying about being a general but not about being among the last to leave Siagon, apparently he was a civilian, who was part of a special team sent in to rescue a captured princess, so I guess he's a bit of Mario too.

    No I didn't make that part up it's in the newspaper . . .

Weber admitted that the battlefield commission he spoke of in last week’s feature article in the Sentinel never happened. But he insisted he was in Saigon when the last helicopter took off from the U.S. Embassy building, but he was there as a civilian, and that he was part of the team that went in to rescue the daughter of a Middle Eastern prince, who had been kidnapped. “I was included because I was a small guy and could fit into the torpedo tubes they used to put us ashore,” he said.

I think they should let him go . . .

    1. He's obviously a little off his rocker.
    2. This is amusing as hell.

    Angry Marine General

Reminds me of my Aunt selling my Uncle's well deserverd Silverstar and Purple heart (WW11) in a yard sale ! Really ticks me off! If I had known she was going to do this I would have bought them to keep them from some idiot like this! Who would buy someone's well deserved medals, when they didn't earn them !
We know that some people who deserved medals didn't get them, but most of them did. Also many who deserved them didn't get them. It is a travesty that someone would claim something that others fought so hard , and endured so much trauma for as their own!

Funny, he has the same name as an RN I used to work with. He said he was a retired Marine Colonel, was drafted before he could go to med school, so he went to nursing school after he retired. I don't think he was quite as old as this guy, and he was a little too large to be shot from a torpedo tube.
