In the days ahead she can take comfort in the fact that she fought back.

I suspect she will become much more aggressive in her defense of self and family. A lady who uses 3 weapons to defend herself during one attack is no quitter. I FOR ONE AM PROUD OF HER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow is a new day and she should look forward and not back. If she were my wife or daughter and she was able we would be working on firing heavier caliber weapons and longer bladed knifes for defense.

Good for her for continuing to fight.

I hope she can get over this.

This kind of a story teaches us a lot of lessons.

    1. It shows us that sometimes it's not enough just to show that you have a firearm or even that shooting the gun will "scare" the bad guys away. This guy was shot at and still kept coming, even charged a woman with a shotgun. He had no regard for his own life.

    2. Machines fail! PERIOD. Who knows what kind of gun she was using but it failed. I have seen Glocks, HKs, Kimbers, Sigs and every other gun known to man jam (even revolvers). Your gun (no matter what brand it is) is not failure proof and to believe so is to be naive. Training for failures and/or having a back up plain is essential.

    3. It's essential to make sure the back up plan is reliable and ready.

    4. Training is essential as well.

    5. The great part is that this gal obviously had a will to survive. She fought and fought and fought, even to the knife-wielding point. The stab was to the chest where, unfortunately there are lots of bones in place for the express purpose of protecting against those stabs. She tried though and that's fantastic. I am very proud of her as well and think she is a fabulous example of the fighting spirit. Imagine what a little knife training would have done for her.

I'm glad this guy was caught. I hope he doesn't get out of jail for the rest of his life.

Of course, I think he should have been put in jail the moment he put his hands around the throat of a young boy.

My HD handgun is a Armines 357 revolver...some say it is a cheap gun, but it was my dad's and has never failed me after 1000's of rounds.

that 22 should have been properly cleaned and why did they not utilize reliable factory self defense ammo?

22 is weak any ways might have just took a lung out and made him hurt for a bit.

My wife's 40 cal and 45 acp she qualifies with at range matches will leave a mark for sure. Im more worried of coming home late unannounced and taking a rd from her on accident.

There is another factor to be considered here. Sometimes we lose, even when we avail ourselves of every tool at our disposal. In a defensive scenario, we are always behind the curve. The bad guy chooses the timing and means of attack. Most of the time the well prepared can steal the initiative, but not every time. We aren't perfect, under stressful circumstances, we can and will make mistakes. Sometimes we make mistakes that have future consequences that simply were not foreseeable at the time. We need to have the resolve to carry on, even when things go badly.

I don't believe they make factory SD ammo for a 22,since IMHO a 22 is not a SD weapon, too many people buy a gun load it and never fire it at a range or learn how to properly fire and clear a SA handgun in case of a jam, those people need to stick with a revolver and learn to shoot it,I not only sleep with a 1911 45 with 25 rounds available, but my HD Mossberg 930 SA shotgun is loaded with 6 rounds of 00 buck and all it needs is the safety snicked off and pull the trigger til threat has stopped.

True enough but with that said, when we prepare with a .22 for home self defense and don't know which (big) guns are loaded we put ourselves much farther behind the curve.
Had she went with a loaded shottie at first we may be posting good riddance comments about the bad guy.
We can prepare to win or prepare to fail by the tools we select and knowledge we seek. I give her a lot of credit for fighting and using the tools she had without reservation. I just wish she had some training and bigger tools at her disposal.

This is why going over scenarios with everyone in the house is important, don't and you are not apt to respond to a threat properly.

The .22 would have been just fine had it not malfunctioned, or maybe, had she known how to quickly clear malfunctions. It's sad what happened to this lady, despite all her efforts to fight back. Let's hope this guy stays locked up forever, but we all know that won't happen.
