GOOD: Teenagers Rob The Wrong Guy - LaVergne, TN

LaVergne Man Shoots At Would-Be Robbers - Nashville News Story - WSMV Nashville

LaVergne, Tenn. -- A LaVergne man told police he believes two would-be robbers followed him home. He became suspicious when he saw them drive up with no headlights and one of them come toward him with a gun.

"He lifted up a firearm -- it appeared to a chrome pistol of some sort -- and he pointed it at me and demanded I take everything out of my pockets," said the man, who did not want his name used.
But what the potential offender didn't know was the victim had his own gun and fired first. He had recently purchased the gun and was planning on practice shooting earlier that day.

The two teens, 19-year-old Shane Singleton and 17-year-old Tevin Battle, were quickly arrested after neighbors called police because they heard gunshots.

"They just happened to rob the wrong guy," said LaVergne Police Chief Ted Boyd. "These suspects are lucky that they didn't get shot."
Boyd said the victim had every right to do what he did.
"People have the right to defend themselves if they are in fear of bodily harm or death," said Boyd.

Both are repeat offenders, and the 17-year-old was tried and convicted as an adult in Nashville for a similar crime.
"Both of them are on probation at this time," said Boyd. "We know the adult's on probation, he's told us, for 12 years for especially aggravated robbery."

The victim said he would not have done anything differently.
"It could have been a situation where it could have been me," he said. "The suspects could have gotten away and hurt someone else in the subdivision."
Good timing on the victims part in purchasing the gun when he did.
"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground."

    A. He guessed right...purchasing a firearm only days before getting robbed.
    B. Why is a punk who has already been convicted of this crap out of prison already? Did he ever go to prison in the first place?

Too bad that the BGs didn't get hit. A couple of bullet holes in these punks would've taught them a life long lesson.

He fired first, but nobody got shot. Wonder where that bullet went. If you are going to carry a gun, you need to be proficient enough with it to put the bullet into the target before you start carrying it. Fortunately it didn't go into a neighbor's house and hurt or kill an innocent person.

Brady bunch? Maybe Michael Bloomburg. I'm sure a BI was run since the former two ensure us that there are no "illegal" guns on the street, doncha know?

No matter how much you practice, there are going to be missed shots. the police miss all the time. You can never practice under the same pressure as a life or death situation.

I do agree that one should practice as it decreases the chances of a miss.

How did he (the victim) miss the guy who was standing in front of him demanding that he empty his pockets? I assume he did not sign up for the 'point shooting ' class.

One teen was on probation for 12 years......for the same thing?

These punks deserved nothing less than 2 CoM/1 H...for each of them, I do believe in sharing the 'wealth'.

And now the Govenor of TN, is considering releasing 4,000 inmates to help off set some of the budget shortfalls for 2010. Oh, its OK, they will be non-violent offenders like the "kid" mentioned above..

And they want to know why I carry,,

I am grateful the victim was not hurt and the BGs were caught. As to where the missed shots went, who caress as long as nothing important was hit by the stray rounds.

He may have fired at the guy's feet. Down here we like see punks do a little dance every now and agin'! Don't go off half cocked on the missed shot...we also don't live on top of each other when we can help it.

He got a little bit suspicious about their motives when one of them pointed a gun at him...
