STROUD, Okla. -- The Lincoln County Sheriff says a woman shot and killed a man who was trying to break into her home near Stroud.

Sheriff Chuck Mangion said the suspect and his sister crashed near the home. The suspect went to the back door of the home and the noise woke up a woman inside.

She told deputies she warned the man she had a rifle, but said he instead threw a patio chair through the window, injuring her.

The sheriff said she shot and killed the man. She went to the hospital for injuries from the broken glass.

Donna Jackson, 56, told the dispatcher a man she didn't know was at her sliding glass door to her back patio about 12:40 a.m. at 352112 E 800 Road south of the Cushing city limits, said Lincoln County Sheriff Chuck Mangion.

She was armed with a 16-gauge shotgun when the dispatcher heard the glass door smash and the shotgun blast, Mangion said.
