    an update:

Police: Va. student's rifle jammed after 2 shots - Yahoo! News

Probably what prevented a further tragedy was that the gun jammed," Colgan said.

Hamilton bought the Marlin .30-06 bolt-action rifle Monday at a Dick's Sporting Goods store near the campus, police said.
If he was a better student, maybe he would have read the rifle's manual and practiced a little. Fortunately, he was not.

I am amazed at how close this was to being a horrendous multiple death active shooter event and how little national attention it is getting.

This kid did everything that previous school shooters did, he just did it badly. Had he been even a little better prepared or trained, if would be a very different story.

This problem is not going away.

My point was in regards to state-funded organizations being a solid point of state preemption statutes. In many states, while state-funded organizations are disallowed from not accepting armed people, the legislatures allow (a) expulsion and (b) firing anyway. Yet, citizens/customers/whomever else can come right in and the organization can't lift a finger. It makes no sense, IMO. Someone else's "domain" or not.

Interesting how not a lick of info on this event has hit the big media!
They are all focused on Tiger Woods and how 'Lady GaGa' met the Queen of England and is now one of Barbara Walter's ten most interesting people of 2009.

BTW that Marlin was on sale at Dicks during the Black Friday sales for dirt cheap. Like under $250 cheap and it came with a scope.
I was in the store looking at one and actually contemplated it but decided to pass.
I bet he picked it up then only for that reason, it was cheap.
And I'll also bet it jammed because it's lever action and dude likely has no experience in running one.

    This kind of scares me.

My mom attends a nova community college campus to become a teacher.

Interesting how the shootings have always been easy fodder for news stations, and yet I did not hear about this; either from the news down 2 hours south of wood bridge or from my parents who still live in nova.

The more stuff like this I read the less I care about where the law says I can carry.
