HOUSTON - A would-be robber is shot to death by a tire store owner in north Houston, and officers are searching for three suspects who got away.

The shooting took place after 8 p.m. Wednesday at the 11100 block of Bauman Road.

Police say four men tried to stage a robbery at the El Mante Tire Shop at the 11000 block of Bauman Road at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The store owner, who has a license to carry a concealed handgun, drew his weapon and started shooting.

One robbery suspect died in the shop, but three others escaped in a black Mercury Mountaineer with chrome rims. They were also able to steal some property, but police would not say what was stolen.

Houston Police Department homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.

The store owner made a brief visit to his shop early on Thursday morning, but told FOX 26 News that he would not comment on the shooting.
Don't these guys know where they are?
Houston is in Harris county. In Harris county shooting bad guys is right up there with football, rodeo, and BBQ. I imagine the Grand Jury will spend a good five minutes on this one.

While it is Houston Texas...I got out of that city because of how the crime rate went up after the Katrina refugees staked residence, and then I was in the Rita scare, and saw how fast and how barbaric people can get when law is nolonger enforcable.

That was it for big cities for me....just too much of a higher chance of me needing to use my firearm in SD there.

I read this story today. Did anyone else notice that there's not even a mention of potential charges? That was the best part of the story. The shop owner and employees were uninjured. The scumbag was shot dead. The other scumbag cowards ran, and we're still looking for them. Period. Best story I've read in the Chronicle in a while.

Oh, and the other good thing about this story is that not only was our shop keeper a good enough shot to kill the scumbag. Now, because the scumbag died, when they catch the other three? They go down on capital murder!
