FLORISSANT — The teenage gunman who grabbed money from the cash register at a Sinclair gas station in Florissant on Wednesday night shot a store clerk on his way out, police say.
The clerk was shot in the side of his abdomen in the holdup at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday. His injuries were not life-threatening, said Florissant Police Sgt. Kevin Boschert.
The clerk was one of two clerks working at the Sinclair station, 1395 Dunn Road. A female clerk was unhurt.
The robber entered the gas station, pulled a revolver and demanded money. He grabbed cash from the register, shot the clerk, then drove off in a silver Jeep that had been parked behind the store. Witnesses told police they last saw him driving north on Washington Street. Boschert had no details on the type of Jeep.
The robber was described as a black man, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9. He was in his late teens. He had a dark complexion and a medium build. He wore dark pants, white tennis shoes, a black skull cap, white gloves and a distinctive coat, police say — it was a black coat with words St. Louis in white lettering on the sleeves, the back, the front.
“Somebody out there has to know somebody who has a coat like that,” Boschert said.
Police are planning to release photos of the robber to the media on Thursday morning.
