GOOD: Homeowner Comes Out On Top - Salem, Indiana

Apparent robber fatally shot by Indiana homeowner - WTHR

Salem - State police say a southern Indiana homeowner fatally shot one of two men who had entered his house in an apparent robbery.

Police were searching Wednesday for the second man, who fled from the house near the Washington County city of Salem after Tuesday night's shooting.

The homeowner told investigators that a man knocked on the door asking to use the telephone. As that man came inside, another man wearing a mask entered as well. The homeowner said he retrieved a gun and shot the first man.

Police identified the slain man as 36-year-old Ronald L. Chastain of Salem.

Ye gods, that ruse is nearly as old as the telephone itself! How sad that the homeowner fell for it, but - good recovery.

Indeed, quite unfortunate people still fall for that one. But, I am glad he was still able to win.

Home invasions on the rise, or so we are told.

We read about the ones where the home owner fights back here on the forum, but I would be like to know what the % up or down of home invasions really is?

Needs to work on that follow up shot. There would one less vermin crawling around.
