ELIGIN, TEXAS (KXAN) - A road rage shooting near Elgin leaves a couple fearing for their lives. Bradley Dungan,19, of Giddings is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police found him with an AK-47 and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his truck. The shooting happened of Highway 290 just west of Elgin.

"He was arrested with an AK47 with several hundred rounds of ammunition,” said Detective Chris Walker.

The weapon and ammunition was found inside Bradley Dungan’s truck after he was pulled over by a DPS trooper just minutes after victims called 911 reporting he had tried to shoot them.
Police said the couple was taking 290 home early last Friday.

"They were driving from Austin they had been to a movie,” said Walker.

They were near the Prosperity Bank and Laser Car Wash on Hwy 290 when they had an altercation with suspected shooter Bradley Dungan on the roadway.

"People cut people off all of the time,” said Walker. “They pull out in front of people, the best thing to do is just let them pass."

Instead the female driver's boyfriend made what Elgin police say could have been a fatal mistake.

"Apparently the passenger in the SUV made an offensive hand gesture at the pickup truck,” said Walker.

Next Police said Dungan pulled out an AK47 which was sitting on the seat next to him, sticking it out the window of this truck and firing it at least once at the victim's SUV.

Neither the couple, or the vehicle were hit. However, Elgin Police say road rage reports are on the rise and you never know what another driver could have with them.

"It’s a much more dangerous world today than it has been in the past,” said Walker. “It just does not make any sense to engage someone in a situation like that. It happened out here in a small town it certainly happens in Austin and larger cities."

Dungan was taken to the Bastrop County Jail but has been released.

Sounds like a made up story to me. No rounds in the vehicle or occupants? Police let him go??? Maybe the gun was never fired or anything else. The BS meter is going up on this one.

Ditto: if any of it happened he would have been held over for a hearing to set bail, would have been high, unless they do things different in Texas.

The story itself is almost certainly real (did you watch the video ?). No idea why they "let him go" but I suspect he just posted bail.

Discharging a firearm on public road is illegal in Texas (shooting it at cars even more so) so it is highly unlikely that he was not charged.
