    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

One man is dead after a shooting early this evening at a used-car dealership just north of Downtown.

The shooting occurred about 5 p.m. at A S Auto Sales, 657 E. 5th Ave., near the intersection of Cleveland and E. 5th avenues.

The body of a man remains in the parking lot of the car dealership.

Columbus police Sgt. Christ Holzhauser said the man was shot by an employee of the business after the man attempted to rob the dealership.

Holzhauser said the robber was pistol-whipping an employee when a co-worker grabbed his own gun and shot the robber.

Columbus police have not yet released the names of those involved.

The employee who was injured is being treated at Grant Medical Center and being interviewed there, along with his co-worker, by police.

The more BGs that go down hard the less repeaters of crime we will have.

I'm glad that the BG is down, but I wonder what type of legal issues the shooting employee will have to confront.

Assuming this story is factual, and the defender shot the BG while/after his coworker had been assulted(pistol whipped), I would hope the DA would NOT persue charges against the defender.

I would agree, but given it's Ohio, I don't know their mentality there and am wondering how this will come out.

Couple of questions. Why are the leaving the body in the parking lot? Deterrent? How long long can a body be left out during the winter before buzzards and flies become a problem? What kind of idiot robs a car dealership? Ever try to buy a new car with cash? Creates lots of problems.

On the mentally deficient scale this has to be near the top.

I used to be a sales rep at a car dealership. They NEVER have cash on hand. I was always told by management on how "cash strapped" the dealership was. Duh!

What was said armed robber thinking? Perhaps he thought the sales rep had a lot of money on him. Who knows. Anyhow, the guy won't be robbing anymore thanks to a observant and armed employee.

We're hovering right around freezing, so the body is going to freeze/thaw/freeze/etc, which should be sufficiently nasty to act as an excellent deterrent. Unfortunately it'll probably slow business to a crawl as well.

I assume the article's author added that line for effect, and it's just that the coroners hadn't arrived to pick up the deceased yet. Nothing sells like shock journalism after all.

As far as the chances of charges against the employee go I'd bet nothing comes of it, since there are witnesses and a fairly clear fear of bodily harm. Now what the employers gun policies are, I've no idea and wouldn't bet either way.

Hopefully the employee is vindicated both by the DA and his employer.

Well, here in the Texas Countryside we hang coyotes on fence post as a deterrent to other coyotes.

    Maybe Ohio is catching on.

For sure his buddys won't be going there to rob it.

Sounds like a rightous shoot to me.

By the looks of the name of the dealership, it seems like it might be a "B" lot car sales . as in , Not a new car sales lot, They sometimes deal with a considerable amt. of cash

    Can we all figure this is what NOT to do with a Pistol;

maybe he did'nt have enough money for bullets?? Just sayin'
