Accidental Rayville shooting claims 3 year old's life

RAYVILLE (KNOE 8 NEWS) - Richland Parish Sheriff Charles McDonald tells KNOE 8 News an off duty police officer went to another officer's house this afternoon around 2:30 to visit.

The officer opened the door of his SUV to get out and a 3 year old boy ran to the truck, grabbed a gun in the side door and shot and killed his 3-year old cousin.

We're told the little girl died at the scene.

It happened on Waldorf Street. Investigators are not releasing names right now and are ruling the shooting an accident.

Not a lot of facts but it sounds like negligence. A horrific tragedy no matter.

Extremely sad, and it always bugs me when these things involve LEOs. A lot of anti-gun people see this and say "see, guns are bad. Even guys "trained" to use them end up getting kids killed!". It's just fuel for their fire.

The Brady Bunch will now start talk about disarming LEO's.

Pretty careless for anyone, yet alone a cop...not good at all.

    Sad story for many families.

    Negligence or Murphy's law?

    Unfortunate either way.
