Two men killed in home-invasion robbery
By Casey McNerthney
Two men were fatally shot Monday night during a home-invasion robbery in the Northgate neighborhood, police said.
The incident happened a few minutes after 11 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Northgate Way. Several North Precinct officers and a police dog were trying to track three men, described by investigators as black men, in their late 20s or early 30s, wearing all black clothing. At least one was armed with a handgun.
Police said early Tuesday they were still searching for the men. The victims were treated at the scene before being taken to Harborview Medial Center, where a nursing supervisor confirmed they died.
The men, whose names were not immediately released pending family notification, were the first two Seattle homicide victims of 2010.
In 2009, two of Seattle's 21 homicides from incidents that year were in North Seattle. Those deaths were the July 26 shooting death of Manish Melwani, a Ballard convenience store clerk killed during a robbery and Daniel Robert Bolof, a man killed Aug. 9 outside the Extended Stay Hotel near Aurora Avenue North.
